Burgundy has been known to inspire the deepest passions in those who have experienced the beauty of the region and finesse of its wines. This year, fortunate guests will be invited to New York to share in the joie de vivre of an event described by Wine & Spirits as "...a chance to taste more great Burgundy than many taste in a year, or a lifetime..." as you meet its elite winemakers, savor their wines, complemented with cuisine from America's leading chefs. While the previous La Paulée's in New York and San Francisco were remarkable successes, this year's lineup of winemakers is truly stellar.
In Meursault, the end of harvest is celebrated at La Paulée, a convivial fête shared by growers and their guests. La Paulée de New York is the brainchild of Burgundy expert Daniel Johnnes, acclaimed wine director at New York's Montrachet, partner in Drew Nieporent's Myriad Restaurant Group, and importer. Guests will delight in the newest releases and older vintage wines of the growers from the most sought after domaines of Burgundy.
Daniel Johnnes, accompanied by sommeliers Bernard Sun of Montrachet, David Gordon of Tribecca Grill, Jean Luc Le Dû of Restaurant Daniel, and sp ecial guest Larry Stone of Rubicon, will orchestrate the pairing of the growers' exquisite wines with menus created by a "Dream Team" of chefs led by New York's luminary Daniel Boulud of Restaurant Daniel. Joining Daniel in the kitchen will be Philippe Jousse chef/owner of Michelin Two-Star restaurant Alain Chapel in Mionnay, France, Chris Gesualdi of Montrachet, and John Mooney of Heartbeat.
Saturday, the La Paulée event day begins at noon with the Grand Tasting at the elegant W New York hotel, featuring the winemakers' latest wine releases, and a special "tasting menu" prepared by a dozen of New York's finest restaurants, including Café Boulud, City Hall, D’Artagnan, Esca, Fairway, Heartbeat, Layla Montrachet, Nobu, Park Avenue Café, Picholine,Tribeca Grill, & Veritas.
The evening begins with a Taittinger Champagne reception, and culminates in a Gala Dinner at 6:00 featuring older vintages from the winemakers’ private cellars paired with the exquisite cuisine of the assembled “Dream Team.” The "Burghound" Allen Meadows will provide commentary, and wine service will be handled by top sommeliers from all-over the country.
In the true spirit of La Paulée, guests are invited to bring with them their own Burgundian wine treasures to share with this intimate group, as Les Chanteurs de Bourgogne, a troupe of traditional Burgundian singers, serenades them.
The evening will be capped by an exciting charity auction benefiting pediatric cancer patients and research, led by glamorous winemaker/auctioneer Ann Colgin.
We invite you to New York to share in the bonhomie only found in Burgundy as you meet its most sought after winemakers, experience superb wines, and feast on the cuisine of some of the world's leading chefs.
